Day 1: Arrival at Kinabalu Park & Trek to Panalaban Base Camp
Morning
Arrive at Kinabalu Park HQ (1,563m) by 7:00–8:00 AM.
Register at the park, meet your guide, and collect your climbing permit.
Transfer to Timpohon Gate (1,866m), the trailhead (a 15-minute drive).
Morning to Afternoon
Start your trek to Panalaban Base Camp (3,272m).
Distance: 6 km (4–6 hours depending on fitness level).
Pass through various vegetation zones (lush rainforest to alpine meadow).
Rest stops every kilometer (e.g., Layang-Layang and Pondok shelters).
Evening
Arrive at Panalaban Base Camp (accommodation options include Laban Rata Resthouse or similar).
Check in and rest.
Have an early dinner at the resthouse dining hall (usually around 5:30–7:00 PM).
Go to bed early (9:00 PM) to prepare for the summit push.
Day 2: Summit Push & Descent
Early Morning
Wake up at 2:00 AM for a light breakfast.
Begin the summit climb by 2:30–3:00 AM.
Distance: 2.7 km (approx. 3 hours).
Follow the well-marked trail over steep granite slabs to Low's Peak (4,095m).
Arrive at the summit by 5:30–6:00 AM to witness the sunrise.
Morning
Descend back to Panalaban Base Camp for breakfast (around 8:30 AM).
Check out and continue your descent to Timpohon Gate (4–5 hours).
Afternoon
Return to Kinabalu Park HQ for certificate collection.
End of the climb.
Additional Notes
Physical Preparation: Train for endurance and strength to handle the altitude and long hours of trekking.
Altitude: Symptoms of altitude sickness can occur; acclimatization is limited due to the short itinerary.
Weather: Be prepared for unpredictable conditions (rain, cold, strong winds).
Equipment: Bring layers, gloves, trekking poles, a rain jacket, and a headlamp.
Permits & Booking: Book your climb months in advance, as slots are limited. Guided climbs are mandatory.
